Nicaragua Land of Fire

Granada, Ometepe and Popoyo, Nicaragua

Experience epic riding in Nicaragua! This trip combines unforgettable biking around Granada visiting the scenic Laguna de Apoyo, Masaya and Mombacho Volcanoes in addition to spending down time in beautiful colonial Granada. The second half of the trip takes us to rural Ometepe Island and ends with coastal riding in Popoyo on the Pacific Coast.


Day 1 - Arrival

Our representatives will pick you up at the airport for the transfer to our hotel in Granada. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore downtown Granada or chill out before the group gets together for dinner that night. We will be getting to know each other and discussing the week’s activities.


Day 2– Laguna de Apoyo

After a hearty breakfast we ride from Granada to Laguna de Apoyo. We will ride through very rural roads and through small hamlets around the lagoon all the way to Catarina where we will have a delicious traditional lunch. On our way back we ride around the northern roads of the lagoon back to Granada. After a 5-hour ride we will arrive at our destination. Total distance is 30 miles on packed gravel and dirt. Breakfast and lunch included.


Day 3 – Mombacho Volcano and rural agricultural cooperative

The foothills around Mombacho Volcano offer great riding and an authentic rural experience. On our ride we will get to know several villages and will spend time in a rural cooperative to learn about history and local agricultural economics.  Total riding distance is 35 miles. Breakfast and lunch included.


Day 4 – Masaya Volcano National Park

Masaya Volcano National Park towers over Granada and today we ride to the park to peek into its active crater. Along the way there is a plenty climbing and sweet singletrack descents into the Masaya Volcano lagoon. Total riding distance is 40 miles. Breakfast and lunch included.


Day 5 - Transfer to Ometepe

With its conical twin volcanoes, Ometepe Island is a sight to behold. Today we ride out of Granada and then shuttle to the pier for the 1-hour ferry ride to Ometepe. Once we disembark we ride the quiet streets to our hotel in Santo Domingo. Total riding distance: 35 miles. All meals included.


Day 6 – Ometepe

Today we depart our hotel and circle the island and around Maderas Volcano. Along the way we have the option of hiking up to the San Ramón Waterfall before making it back to Santo Doming for our final night in Ometepe.


Day 7 - Transfer to the Coast

Time to hit the coast! Today we  shuttle to half-way to the coast (about 1 hour drive) and then ride the backroads to Popoyo, a fantastic beach-town popular with surfers. Total riding distance is 30 miles on a gravel road and undulating terrain. Breakfast and lunch included.


Day 8 - Popoyo

The area around Popoyo is ripe with singletrack. In the morning we ride through sinewy singletrack making our way back to the hotel after lunch and with plenty time to enjoy the spectacular sunset over a coupe cold ones. All meals included.


Day 9 - Rest Day

Today is a free day to enjoy the beach, the surf or another nice ride around this beautiful area. Breakfast included.


Day 10 - Transfer to the airport
