Turrialba Volcano
The ascent to Turrialba Volcano is best done as an option during the Irazú - Turialba ride. The ascent itself is on a dirt road that was recently graded and that climbs from the hamlet of La Central all the way to the lip of the crater. It is only 7 km, but the grade is very steep. Few cyclists can clear the ride all the way!
Once you reach the crater you have the option of hiking down INTO the crater. This in it by itself is a unique experience, as you can do this only in this volcano (depending on current volcanologic conditions).
