Pit Bull Pass
Ah, the joy of agony! We named this ride after almost being nailed by a chained up Pit Bull a the top of this heinous climb in the vicinity of Tapantí National Park. The first time that we survived this experienced we did it the hard way: climbing from Pejibaye up to the pass and then descending into the Orosi River Valley. The smart way of venturing into pit bull territory is to park in Orosi and then ride past Kiri in order to start climbing towards the pass. The climb this way is much more manageable and it only takes between 35 to 45 minutes. Once you reach the top pet the doggy and then ride a very technical doubletrack to Pejibaye and then a dirt road to Tucurrique. After Tucurrique you have the option of riding back to Orosi on a very scenic and hilly paved road or taking a right down to the Reventazón river and the climbing up to Juan Viñas.
Either way, plan for a 6 hour ride.
