Fortuna to Nuevo Arenal Epic
Much is known about the rides near Fortuna: scenic, beautiful, nice...but how about EPIC?
One such ride is the one that starts at the cemetery: go north on the dirt road to La Guaria, continue across Arenal River (please do not use the dilapidated bridge and instead brave the water) and climb towards Monterrey and Lindavista. At Lindavista you are at the top of the mountain ridge over the Venado Valley to your left. Here you can descend to the namesake town for a quick refreshment before continuing south past teh Venado Caverns and Tigra to reach the mountain ridge that overlooks the northern shore of Lake Arenal. At this point you have climbed some six thousand feet.
To return to Fortuna bear left on the dirt road that descends towards the lake and brings you to Toad Hall near Los Héroes Hotel. Take a left and enjoy the 20 mile paved ride back to the Lake Arenal Dam and then the additional 8 miles back to town.
This ride takes between 6 and 7 hours at a good clip.
